25 favorite #1

In order to keep myself drawing (and coloring) I'm going to start doing sketches of some of my favorite characters from movies, cartoons, videogames, books, etc. The first, being Guybrush Threepwood:

Guybrush Threepwood is the main character from the Monkey Island series of computer games that started in 1990 and ended in 2000.

The first one that I ever played was actually the third installment The Curse of Monkey Island, and this is a take on Guybrush from the opening scene. I can still remember sitting in the home office, lights out, watching this opening cutscene and being blown away by it. The humor of the game really resonated with me and has greatly influenced me from that point on *cough* Chronicles of the Wavecutter *cough*.

In other, awesome, news, Joss Whedon has deemed fit for us to behold his genius in the form of an internet mini-musical! Behold!

I think Niel Patrick Harris would make an excellent Guybrush Threepwood, by the way.

21 Brave New Meme

If you don't play HALO and you don't like videogames, then you probably don't want to waste your time with the rest of this post.

If you're still with me, check this out: HALO kid

Sadly, this kid is gonna get made fun of, but one has to admit his cardboard reproductions of HALO weaponry are pretty damn good. I often tried this kind of stuff as a kid and failed miserably. My attempts at homemade toys more often resembled mangled, malformed installation art rather than anything one would recognize from the physical world. My only saving grace was my ability to draw a mean control panel onto a flat piece of cardboard. Thus my cardboard/bedsheet forts were pretty elaborate.

Anyway, back to this kid. What really strikes about the video is the quiet awkwardness of it. So unlike the flashy, brazenness of the Star Wars Kid. A level of nerddom for the more sophisticated internet meme viewer.

However, I totally give props to this kid for his....er...props.

20 Something weird happened to the post below this post

IF we ever discover that there are parellel dimensions and IF we decide to hold a contest to decide which universe is the best and IF our universe gets some sort of special award THEN I hope that the headline in the next day's newspaper reads:

Our Dimension Gets Da Mention

18 No Small Change

The company I work for (XPLANE) has just released an infographic about Obama being the first major candidate to decline participation in the public financing system for presidential campaigns. Go check it out!

16 Bloodied

Haven't updated the site in a while. Here's a sketch I did recently when trying to come up with the main character from a story idea that I have. He's just been in a fight!
